Case Study – Bespoke Booklets

Introduction

A new customer approached us recently with a request to produce a truly unique brochure. It featured a smaller secondary cover, with the main cover needing to remain visible, laminated, and spot UV’d – and, as is often the case, it was all required within a very tight timeframe.

Production Process

Printing

The booklets were printed using our digital print machine to achieve sharp detail, consistent colour, and a high-quality finish throughout the run. All paper used was FSC or PEFC certified, ensuring the materials were responsibly sourced.

Finishing

To create a visual contrast between the covers, matte lamination was applied to the larger inner cover, while the smaller outer cover was left unlaminated. We then created a spot UV effect to accentuate the company name and logo on the laminated cover.

Given the tight timeframe, this required a somewhat unconventional approach – we printed directly onto the laminated surface and, by increasing the temperature on our machine, melted the toner-based inks to produce a glossy finish. We’re always thinking outside the box to get the best results for our customers.

Binding and assembly

This was the most complex stage. With a smaller outer cover, there was no straightforward way to keep it in place during stapling. Thinking outside the box again, our team used removable glue to temporarily hold the cover in position while stitching, before cleanly removing it once secured.

The stitching had to be done off centre in order to allow the secondary cover to be secured in place while maintaining the structural integrity of the booklet.

The result

As you can see from the photos, the finished booklets looked fantastic – and the customer was over the moon. They even re-ordered a second batch to ship to their parent organisation in the USA.

This project is just one example of Stag Print’s ability to deliver complex, bespoke solutions within demanding production timelines, while maintaining the highest standards of finish and attention to detail.
