More than ink: The impact of premium print

In an increasingly digital world, it’s easy to forget how powerful printed marketing materials can be.

At Stag Print, premium leaflets and brochures are far more than just ink on paper; they’re meticulously crafted and designed to leave a lasting impression on your potential customers. By utilising a range of advanced printing techniques, the look and feel of your premium printing can be greatly enhanced – that’s where our expertise comes in.

Premium feel

The texture of your leaflet plays a crucial role in how your message is received. A glossy magazine cover, for instance, conveys a smooth, polished look and feel. Whereas an uncoated leaflet feels natural to the touch, offering a tactile experience that can also reflect its environmental credentials.

We provide a wide range of finishes that can elevate your print to premium quality:

  • Laminating – Adds a sleek, smooth or matt effect.
  • Spot UV – Highlight specific areas of your design, offering a glossy, raised shine. Ideal for logos or headlines.
  • Embossing – Creates a raised effect from the page, producing a tactile and visual impression, even without any print.
  • Foiling – Adds metallic highlights like gold or silver for a luxurious finish.

Folding thoughts

Effective marketing materials need to strike a balance between aesthetic appeal and technical function. A lightweight, low GSM paper is ideal for multi-fold leaflets – easy to open and carry – but they must also withstand repeated use without damage. Alternatively, a heavier paper might be preferred for its premium feel, requiring precision creasing to ensure durability and a tighter fold.

It is also worth considering the number and direction of folds – vertical, horizontal, or a combination of both. The choice between fold types, such as concertina or roll-fold, also influences how your content is experienced: a concertina fold opens in alternating directions like an accordion, while a roll-fold wraps each panel inward in sequence. These choices make folding a key design decision, not just a technical afterthought.

Brochure binding, format and finishes

Brochures offer a versatile format to present detailed content, but they come with important design and production choices.  Binding methods include saddle stitching – where pages are stapled through the spine. And, perfect or PUR bound, which are both methods of gluing the spine; the primary difference being the adhesive used.

They can also vary in shape and size, picking between landscape, portrait or square. To enhance the impact, customers will often put embellishments, such as foiling or spot UV, on the front cover – this is the most cost-effective option as it will be immediately seen.
