Candle packaging: we have the answers

Over the years at Stag Print we have curated packaging for many wellbeing products. From CBD oils to candles – we’ve done it all!

Producing packaging can be challenging, in this blog we answer some of the questions we have been asked by our customers seeking to produce the perfect packaging for their candles.

How important is the look of the candle packaging?

First impressions count, and the first thing your customers will see, and feel, is the packaging. It sets the tone of what the customer expects to find inside the box and so is one of the most important parts of creating the right brand image for your candle. Boxes with a high quality finish will draw you in, and here at Stag Print we use a range of finishing techniques to produce excellent looking results such as: foiling, embossing, spot gloss varnishes, and printing in fluorescent inks to name a few.

What is the best structural design for the candle packaging?

Protection is key to ensure the candle makes it to the customer without damage. Candles often come in glass containers which need a sturdy outer and inner box to keep them safe.

Transport is also important to consider – while unique shapes may draw people in, transporting these is often not efficient. When using square/rectangular packaging it fits together tightly without air gaps making transport much more efficient.

How do you make the candle packaging eco-friendly?

An effective way to make packaging eco-friendly is using a minimalistic design. Finishes like gloss and matt lamination look great, but the process entails applying a thin layer of plastic, making the packaging non-biodegradable and not fully recyclable. Paper is one of the most recycled materials in the UK, which makes it the perfect choice for an eco-friendly product. And here at Stag Print we only use paper that is FSC or PEFC certified.

What legally needs to be printed on candle packaging?

In the UK there are several legal requirements to comply with when producing candle packaging. If the candle is scented, it would need to be labelled in accordance with CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) regulations. These regulations cover hazardous substances such as fragrances. However, if the candle is not scented it would only require standard fire safety labels, for example not leaving a burning candle unattended..

As this blog shows, there is much more to candle packaging than meets the eye! We’re happy to help navigate the maze to find the perfect packaging product.
